OVER 150 COACHES ATTEND FALL CLASSIC

12/08/2014 3:00 PM -

Year after year, Tom Rotanz’s “Fall Classic” is one of the most anticipated and highly regarded boys lacrosse events in the country, pitting some of the best high school programs against each other for one day of ultra-competitive lacrosse action. This year’s event, held at Farmingdale State College on the weekend of Nov. 8, certainly did not disappoint.

For 2014, Coach Rotanz partnered with Dynamic Sports, a Melville, N.Y. based sports management company. Immediately, the Fall Classic grew from a one-day premier high school event, with participants like Smithtown East (NY), Salesianum (DE), Hill Academy (ON), Manhasset (NY), Darien (CT), Syosset (NY), Ward Melville (NY), Conestoga (PA) and St. Thomas Aquinas (FL), to a two-day event with club teams and an individual showcase. In all, more than 90 teams participated in the event, with 300 players in the Saturday afternoon individual event. Club teams included Team 91 (NY), LI Outlaws (NY), 2 Knights (NJ) and new to the recruiting scene this fall, the LI Empire (NY).

There was stark contrast between the two-day event, with temperatures on Saturday dipping into the low 30s but climbing as high as 58 on Sunday. Saturday’s low temperature didn’t stop the 149 college coaches that were on hand from over 85 schools such as Duke, Princeton, Penn State, Maryland, Cornell, Dartmouth and Lehigh to see these teams battle it out. “This year’s talent pool was among the best that I have seen this fall,” said new Farmingdale State Head Coach Sean Chamberlain.

“What a great way to wrap up the fall recruiting circuit,” said a Division 1 coach, who could not be named due to compliance rules. “What’s unique about this event is that we can see the players in their school team’s system, playing with their friends that they grew up with. This is a great event that I will have on my recruiting calendar each fall.
